Neda Rahmanian, a German actress with Iranian roots, was born in Tehran and grew up in Hamburg. She studied acting at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre.
She has since performed at some of Germany’s most renowned theatres, including Schauspielhaus Bochum, Thalia Theater Hamburg, and most recently the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
Neda gained wider recognition for her leading role as Detective Branka Marić in the acclaimed ARD crime series Der Kroatien-Krimi (2016–2020, internationally known as Split Homicide), which attracted up to five million viewers per episode. She was also celebrated for her performance in the historical feature film Leberkäseland (2015, directed by Nils Willbrandt).
Her diverse screen work includes The Billion Dollar Code (Netflix), Das Beste kommt noch (directed by Til Schweiger), Feinde (Ferdinand von Schirach, 2021), Das Unwort (2020), and Tiefwassertaucher unterm Dach (2024). Since 2020, she has portrayed the quirky school principal Selma Herzog in the acclaimed ZDF drama series Fritzie – Der Himmel muss warten.
Internationally, she drew attention in 2017 with the leading role in LOOKING FOR OUM KULTHUM (directed by Shirin Neshat). The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was later shown at the BFI London Film Festival and the Qatar Film Festival.
In addition to her acting career, Neda teaches her own masterclasses and lectures at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre and other institutions.
