Jonas Hien was raised in Berlin. Before pursuing acting, he was the singer of a punk band. He studied acting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theatre in Leipzig.
In 2025, Hien takes on one of the leading roles in Arne Feldhusen’s ZDF series Das Manko, for which he also serves as head writer. The series won the International Competition in Lille and received the Official Competition Award at Seriencamp Cologne, where it was recognized as one of the most outstanding new German series productions.
Alongside his longstanding theatre career, Jonas Hien has established himself as a distinctive presence in film and television, known for his sharp comedic timing, physical intensity and striking character work. He gained widespread attention through the award-winning ARD series Die Zweiflers and will return for its upcoming second season.
His recent screen work further includes the TV films Mordnacht and Die Reise zu mir, as well as appearances in productions including Tatort, Nord Nord Mord, Helen Dorn, SOKO Leipzig and Die Kanzlei .
From 2014 until 2022, Jonas Hien was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, working with directors including Karin Beier, Herbert Fritsch and Studio Braun. Previous engagements took him to Schauspiel Leipzig, Volksbühne Berlin and Schauspielhaus Bochum. Since the 2023/24 season, he is part of the ensemble at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
