Nicolas Handwerker studied acting at the renowned Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theater in Leipzig. During this time, he was a member of the studio at Schauspiel Köln, where he took on several stage roles, including the title role in Ferdinand Schmalz’s play Herzelfresser.

He gained his first experience in front of the camera during his studies and appeared in several television productions. His first permanent engagement took him to the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, where he was seen in central roles such as Tom in Tennessee Williams‘ The Glass Menagerie, Walter in Sybille Berg’s My Rather Strange Friend Walter and Biff in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.

Nicolas Handwerker has been working as a freelance actor for film, television and theater since 2020.

His current work includes an incisive role in Tatort – Über Grenzen directed by Hans Steinbichler and a role in the ZDF series Blutige Anfänger – Vermisste Schwester directed by Jakob Timmler. He previously appeared in the ARD crime series Polizeiruf 110 – Schweine, directed by Tomasz Rudzik, and played an LKA officer in the ARD film Informant, directed by Matthias Glasner. 

He also appears regularly in series. For example, he took on the recurring role of Michi in the ZDF series Doktor Ballouz. In the ARD series Die Heiland, he played the role of Lorenz Reuter.  He also appeared as Alois in the Paramount+ production Der Scheich.
