PORTFOLIO

Neda Rahmanian, a German actress with Iranian roots, was born in Tehran and grew up in Hamburg. She studied acting at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, where she made her stage debut as “Julia” in Romeo and Juliet at the Grenzlandtheater Aachen — a performance for which she received an award even before completing her studies.

Extensive engagements at major theaters followed, including the Schauspielhaus Bochum, Thalia Theater Hamburg, and most recently the Schauspielhaus Zürich.

Rahmanian made her film debut in 2007 in Die Überflüssigen (directed by Aleksandra Kumorek) and soon established herself as a versatile performer on screen. She gained wider recognition for her leading role in the historical feature film Leberkäseland (2015, directed by Nils Willbrandt) and as Detective Branka Marić in the successful ARD crime series Der Kroatien-Krimi (2016–2020), which reached up to five million viewers per episode and was also broadcast internationally under the title Split Homicide.

Her further credits include The Billion Dollar Code (Netflix), Das Beste kommt noch (directed by Til Schweiger), Feinde (Ferdinand von Schirach, 2021), Das Unwort (2020), and Tiefwassertaucher unterm Dach (2024). Since 2020, she has been part of the acclaimed ZDF drama series Fritzie – Der Himmel muss warten, portraying the quirky school principal Selma Herzog.

In 2017, Rahmanian played the main role in Looking for Oum Kulthum, directed by internationally renowned artist Shirin Neshat. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was later screened at the BFI London Film Festival and the Qatar Film Festival.

Beyond her work as an actress, Rahmanian teaches her own masterclass in acting and lectures at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre as well as other institutions. She currently lives and works in Hamburg.
